AUSJET work to create timely training and cost efficient courses for industry

Mon, 20 Jul 2020

IN LATE June 2019, a revised Unit of Competency (UoC) for Interpret technical drawing was released. There was an extension period of 12 months where that superseded UoC could be utilised in training packages. As of 25th June 2020, the extension period for MEM09002B Interpret technical drawing Unit of Competency ended.

Interpret technical drawing UoC is included in the skill sets for Operate a drain cleaning system MSMSS0005 and Operate a high pressure water jetting system MSMSS0004.

The latest revision of that UoC MEM09002 has four Pre-requisite Units of Competency:

  • MEM12023 Perform engineering measurements
  • MEM12024 Perform computations
  • MEM13015 Work safely and effectively in manufacturing and engineering
  • MEM16006 Organise and communicate information

With the revised UoC MEM09002 and the four pre-requisites added it would mean at least another day added to each of the two skillset courses mentioned earlier.

After reviewing the new UoC and pre-requisites then considering the ramifications, Ausjet (through IBSA) have been working on a project to revise the MSMWJ Units of Competency and in the process, removing the requirement for the Interpret technical drawing UoC and adding into the MSMWJ302 Operate a drain cleaning system and MSMWJ301 Operate a high pressure water jetting system UoCs, a section on utilising technical drawings that is more suited to our industry.

The review project is on track with a projected end date of October 2020.

RTOs with MSMWJ302 Operate a drain cleaning system and MSMWJ301 Operate a high pressure water jetting system may have had MEM09002B UoC taken off their scope and have been conversing with ASQA regarding options during this cross over period.

Information coming from member RTO’s who have MSMSS0005 Operate a drain cleaning system and MSMSS0004 Operate a high pressure water jetting system on their scope is that during the period from end of July until the release of the revised UoCs & Skill Sets they will utilise their existing training packages containing the superseded MEM09002B Interpret technical drawing Unit of Competency.

The certificates issued following the successful completion of each course will not state MEM09002B Interpret technical drawing has been completed.

If there are any concerns regarding any training and certification during this cross over period, please contact the RTO directly.
